David Shives has been a middle and high school band director for 9 years. Having been involved with the indoor Winds activity since it’s inception, he started two scholastic groups in the Charlotte, NC area (Olympic High School WSA 2015, Ardrey Kell High School WSA 2017) which are still active in WGI today. In 2019, Ardrey Kell High School received the silver medal in Winds Scholastic A competition at the WGI World Championships.

Since 2018, David has served as the Winds delegate for the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association, one of the largest indoor circuits in the nation. In his time serving in this position, the number of winds program participating in the circuit has tripled.
